ABOUT THE PROJECT:
Nelly Senong founded the Haven several years ago.
Being a Section 21 Company ensures that the Haven be administered in
a fully accountable and open manner under the processes and
procedures of the Companies Act.
TASKS:
Volunteers will be assisting in the children's daily needs,
preparing meals, caring for the youngsters, helping children with
homework, playing with and entertaining the children. Maintenance of
the foster home and creating a comfortable environment. We will also
will be doing regular field trips with the children.
The Vision:
To transform the child’s environment so that he/she can
experience the warmth of a home and to integrate him back into school so
that in turn he/she can/will offer a positive input in our society. We
want to maintain a balance: the children need to be cared for in spirit,
soul and body.
Furthermore, it is our vision that those children receive
tertiary education within their line of interest.
The Mission:
-
To let the children be children again.
-
To restore their dignity as human beings.
-
Channel the desire of creating a better future into
useful qualities.
-
To impress discipline by means of participation in
house rules and duties.
The goal is to give the children the love they never knew
or experienced. This is a love they can only ultimately experience when
they have a relationship with Christ Jesus. It is our belief that when
this happens the rest will fall into place, and they will be restored to
the role God intended for them – TO BE LIKE CHILDREN, and valuable
members of society.
Core Activities
The operation of the Haven as Nelly's foster house and as
a place of safety for children who have come from disadvantaged
backgrounds and have been neglected or orphaned and come to a position
where the Department of Social Development has taken them into care. The
Company is committed to ensure that the children who come into this
Haven will be cared for in a holistic way, ensuring the needs of the
child are met both in body and soul. The Haven provide a home
environment which is culturally in tune with the child’s background.
The Haven will ensure that contact is maintained with the
child’s family where this is possible and appropriate. Each child will
have a development plan so that life skills are taught in addition to
the school education and spiritual support given.
Foster Mother
Nelly
